Nut growers in California are facing record production this year. Nuts covered 48,000 acres with a total value of almost $1.4 billion statewide. Aggressive marketing campaigns have increased demand in order to keep pace with their production. This year, farmers grew a record amount of almonds and pistachios in California. Almonds edged near the one billion pound mark and pistachios should top 293 million pounds.
Pistachio growers are earning about five cents more per pound at $1.20. Almond growers are selling their nuts at about 15 cents more per pound, receiving between 90 cents and $1.10.
