Ann Landers´ desk, combat boots, antique furniture and letters were up for auction today in San Francisco.
The late syndicated columnist, whose real name was Esther Lederer, collected too many treasures over the years. Her daughter, Margo Howard, said the auction held at auction house Butterfields was both a practical solution and a way to share history.
Howard said many items, including her mother’s collection of owl knickknacks and correspondences with former US presidents, famous tycoons and even Oprah Winfrey were up for bid.
About the only thing not for sale are the countless bags of letters Lederer received from readers. Howard said her mother took great care to destroy them to not betray identities.
