Sold! Small Town Goes For $1.8 Million

Frenzied eBay bidding for a tiny Northern California town closed at almost $1.8 million today.

If the deal goes through, all 82 acres of Bridgeville will go to an unidentified buyer. The Humboldt County village is about 260 miles north of San Francisco.

The unidentified high bidder topped the leading offer just seconds before the auction closed this morning.

Almost 250 bids were cast during the town´s month on the auction block. Bridgeville comes complete with a post office, a mile-and-a-half of river bank, a cemetery and more than a dozen cabins and houses. Its current owner acknowledges it´s a fixer-upper. Final bids for real estate posted on eBay aren´t binding. The high bidder will close the deal off line with the owner.

A spokesman for the electronic auction house says Bridgeville is the first town to be sold on eBay.
