PepperBall Weapon Opposed

California legislators are close to passing a measure to allow citizens to purchase weapons with plastic
bullets containing a fiery pepper powder. A San Diego company that makes the PepperBall weapon says the plastic bullets burst on impact, with pepper
powder affecting the eyes and breathing of people who are targeted.

Law-enforcement groups oppose the law change, saying that it would allow
criminals to easily get dangerous weapons. The California Senate has approved the measure, which would come to a vote in the Assembly when the Legislature
ends its recess, August 20th.
