Petaluma City Councilman Bryant Moynihan´s colleagues say they will sue him for an alleged violation of the city´s campaign finance law.
The council voted yesterday in closed session to file suit against Moynihan after he declined a city settlement offer.
The six members of the council who met in closed session would not say if the vote was unanimous.
Moynihan has said he accepted the contributions in question to expose what he contends are flaws in the law.He says it´s too restrictive and should have a contribution limit of 1,000 dollars, not 200 dollars. He also thinks it should apply to incumbents.
At issue are five 500 dollar contributions Moynihan accepted after the law took effect early this year.
