Since the terrorist attacks, the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau has had to reassess plans to attract tourism in the motherlode in the wake of slumping domestic air travel. The bureau has revised their advertising strategy to highlight car travel as a way to get to and enjoy the Sonora area.
Although air travel within the nation´s borders has dropped since September 11th, Sikes says international flights are still strong, with many foreign tourists still booking reservations for motherlode vacations.
