Update: Regional Red Flag Warnings And Sierra Nevada Wind Advisory

Strong gusty north to east wind, combined with exceptionally low humidity and dry fuels will continue the critical fire weather conditions through this afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Mother Lode, the Central Sierra Foothills, the Central Sierra Nevada Mountains, the Stanislaus National Forest, and the Northern San Joaquin Valley through 5 PM this afternoon.

The Wind Advisory issued for the Northern Sierra Nevada will expire at 2 PM today.

Sustained winds of ten to thirty-five mph will continue at times in every region, with gusts up to seventy mph over the higher elevation ridges.

Minimum daytime humidity will range from three to fifteen percent.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Extreme caution should be taken to prevent new fire starts.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong wind, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
