A former Cal State Hayward accountant has been charged with stealing more than 150 thousand dollars from the college.
David Kenneth Wright surrendered to police this past week. Wright allegedly fabricated check requests, altered documents and forged signatures over a period of five years.
Wright reportedly says he embezzled funds to pay his credit card bill and help his brother through some financial troubles. He also reportedly used the money to pay for the remodeling of his house, including a granite kitchen counter and a stucco exterior.
Wright was the only accountant for the Educational Foundation, which raises and manages funds for the college´s scholarships and research. He also spearheaded a campaign for a new 23 million dollar building.
