Tuolumne County May Have To Tighten Belt

Published Nov 26, 2001 6:05 pm : Updated Jan 31, 2009 5:56 pm

Tuoulumne County may soon feel the effect of the state´s 12 billion dollar budget deficit.

County Administrator Brent Wallace presented a bleak outlook last week, predicting the county may lose over ten million dollars of revenues from the state in the next year.

Wallace suggests a hiring freeze for most county positions begin December 1st as well as a halt on all county purchases of big ticket items by March 31st. Wallace believes in order to lessen the budget blow, the county´s focus should be on saving money as soon as possible.
