The time of year is upon the Motherlode, when we all have thoughts of snuggling up around a warm fire, however if we are not careful that fire could cost a lot more than we expected. Timothy Pelican with the Tuolumne County Dept. of Agriculture says that consumers need to be aware of firewood purchases, and use common sense when making them. Treat your purchase as though you were in a department store buying something Always get a receipt for the purchase, never pay in advance for firewood, and measure the stack of firewood. Rule of thumb is a cord of wood equals 128 cubic feet. If you have questions or concerns about a purchase, call the Tuolumne County Department of Weights and Measures.
