County Supervisor Mark Thornton is not impressed with Governor Gray Davis´ ideas on how state and local governments can respond to the state´s projected population growth in the future.
Thornton was present at an State Office of Planning and Research meeting in San Andreas. Representatives of five other adjacent counties discussed property tax revenue reform as well as affordable housing issues.
Thornton´s main concern is that the state´s position on growth is too short sided, spanning over ten years. Thornton believes the Governor should take a longer view, perhaps over several decades to plan for population and economic expansion.
