The man who shot and killed seven people at Cal-State Fullerton 25 years ago will remain in a state mental hospital.
An Orange County Superior Court judge yesterday rejected Edward Charles Allaway´s request for freedom.
The 63-year-old was hospitalized after being found innocent by reason of insanity in the July, 1976 killings.
Allaway, a campus janitor, wanted a conditional release.
Three previous requests for freedom were denied and Allaway withdrew another.
Doctors at Patton State Hospital say Allaway would benefit by living in a halfway house. But other mental health experts noted that eventhough Allaway was free of paranoid schizophrenia symptoms, a relapse could occur.
Based on that testimony, the judge ruled Allaway still has a mental disorder and is still a threat to the community.
