There´s a report today in the New York Times that John Walker Lindh will likely face at least one charge that could carry the death penalty.
The recent Lindh interview on C-N-N appears to have erased any government sympathy for the 20-year-old captured alongside Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.
One Bush administration official who doesn´t want to be identified tells the Times “It´s clear he knew what he was
doing.”
An official says charging Lindh with a crime that could carry the death penalty would give the government more leverage in negotiations with his lawyers.
President Bush says he hasn´t decided yet on specific charges against Walker, who´s being held on a Navy ship off Pakistan.
