Fourteen people have been killed in California traffic accidents during the first 36 hours of the Christmas holiday period. A year ago there were 17 deaths during the same period. The California Highway Patrol said of the nine people who died in accidents in CHP jurisdiction, four were NOT wearing seat restraints, with one motorcyclist killed NOT wearing a
helmet.
Statewide during the period from 6 pm Friday to 6 am today, there were 778 arrests for drunken driving, five more than during the same holiday period a year ago.
