The California Highway Patrol will soon begin distributing personal alcohol test kits to bars and restaurants in several central California valley and foothill counties, in an effort to discourage drunk driving incidents as New Year´s Eve approaches.
The credit-card size kit contains test strips that are applied to the tongue for ten seconds. The color that appears on the end of the strip will indicate the users blood-alcohol content. The CHP hopes the self-test will dissuade impared motorists from getting behind the wheel. The kit can also be picked up at participating CHP offices.
