Update at 5:45 p.m.: The CHP is releasing more information regarding the fatal solo vehicle crash on North Railroad Flat Road, east of Highway 26, in the Rail Road Flat area of Calaveras County. The deceased is a 67-year-old Simi Valley man. His name is not being released pending notification of family. The CHP is reporting that the man was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 truck southbound on Railroad Flat Road at an unknown rate of speed when he allowed it to drift off the roadway and up an embankment. The pickup then overturned and landed on its roof in the southbound lane.
The man was pinned inside the truck and firefighters had to free him. Unfortunately, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. They add that the crash remains under investigation to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in this collision.
Railroad Flat Road was shut down between Independence and Blue Mountain roads for several hours with traffic being detoured onto Highway 26.
