New Unemployment Statistics

Sonora, CA — The unemployment rate in the Mother Lode edged up last month, but declined statewide.

Tuolumne County’s rate during June was 8.9%, compared to 8.7% in May. Calaveras County’s rate inched up to an even 10%, compared to 9.6% the month prior. California’s unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in June from 8.6% in May. 

Statewide, California added 30,200 jobs last month. Sectors that saw notable gains include trade, healthcare, leisure, hospitality and government. Meanwhile, Construction jobs declined last month. The statistics were compiled by the California Employment Development Department.

Imperial County has the highest unemployment rate in the state at 23.6% and is followed by Colusa County at 15.8%. Counties with the lowest rates were Marin (5.1%), San Mateo (5.4%) and San Francisco (5.7%).
