Firefighters Remain In Copperopolis

Copperopolis, CA — Full containment of the Chuckwagon Fire in Copperopolis is expected by six o’clock this evening.

The 18 acre fire started during the noon hour yesterday, and officials remain on scene today for mop-up operations. Around 150 firefighters were on scene at one point yesterday, but the number is closer to 25 this morning. There are two fire engines and one water tender still remaining. All of the aircraft has returned to base. CAL Fire says the blaze is 75% contained.

Officials are still investigating what sparked the fire. Initial reports are that it may have been started by a tree falling into a power line. No homes were damaged, but one out building was hit by the fire. Click here to view a map of the area.
