Sentencing For Baby’s Death

Sonora, CA — The Jamestown man who plead guilty to causing his three month old daughter’s death was sentenced yesterday, July 29, in Tuolumne County Superior Court. 26 year old Kevin Michael Boehmer was sentenced to 19 years and four months in prison.

Boehmer plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter, assault, injury to a child with an additional great bodily injury that results in brain injury and/or coma. According to Tuolumne County District Attorney Michael Knowles, Boehmer is not subject to AB109 release and will serve a minimum of 85% of his time.

Boehmer brought his three-month-old baby to Sonora Regional Medical Center in December saying she was having difficulty breathing. The little girl, Kalie Boehmer, was taken off life support on December 11th at Oakland Children’s Hospital.

DA Knowles says they identified three injuries that were counted as separate events which contributed to the three felony charges. Those events were; a broken leg, broken ribs, and brain injuries, considered blunt force trauma, caused by rapid movement usually from shaking an infant.

The baby’s Mother was and still is serving time in prison in Washington State for a child abuse incident regarding a different child. When Kalie was born, Kevin Boehmer was given custody and relocated to Tuolumne. DA Knowles said due to this tragedy the State of Washington has been examining its regulations regarding releasing of infants of inmates.

DA Knowles confirmed that California has abandonment laws, offers child welfare respite and intervention. Tuolumne County’s Public Health Department offers an online Resource Directory here.
