Rim Fire Transitioning To Type Two Incident

Tuolumne County, CA – The Rim Fire is no longer being considered a top-priority fire, and will begin the transition over to a Type Two Incident Management Team today.

Fire crews will continue mop-up operations and patrol the fire lines, with the objective of keeping it within the existing containment lines. No structures are considered threatened. 98 outbuildings were destroyed, 11 homes and three commercial buildings. Temperatures are expected to be cooler today, in the upper 70’s within the perimeter of the fire. 15 mph southwest winds are projected, with ridge top gusts up to 30 mph. The fire is expected to slowly spread into rocky areas within the Yosemite and Emigrant Wilderness areas, east of Cherry Lake and north of Hetch Hetchy.

1,540 firefighters are on scene this morning, and the cost to battle the blaze is up to $114.7 million. Thus far, 52-miles of dozer line have been repaired, two miles of hand line, and 14 miles of road.
