Drop The Drugs

Calaveras County, CA — Does your medicine cabinet still have drugs in it that have expired? Then Calaveras County Sheriff’s Officials want you? They are having a “Drop the Drugs” event where you can rid your medicine cabinet of expired or unused prescription drugs. Sheriff’s Officials say that prescription drugs are second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in America.
Many people throw unused pills in the trash or flush them down the toilet, but Sheriff’s officials say that creates a serious health risk because it can contaminate the water supply.

They also say pills thrown in the trash can be picked up by anyone and abused or sold on the street. Sheriff’s Officials are making it easy for you to drop the drugs and puts the medicine in the right hands for proper disposal.

You can drop off your unwanted drugs on Saturday, October 26th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations in the county:

The event is a joint effort by the Sheriff’s Department and Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention. For more information on the program call Deputy Scott Kirkman at (209)754-6384. For more information about the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention contact Michael Magana at (209)754-6019.
