Sacramento, CA — A California Senator, who previously represented Calaveras County, has thrown his hat in the ring to become the state’s Insurance Commissioner.
Senator Ted Gaines represented Calaveras County after winning a special District One Senate election in 2011 following the death of longtime Senator Dave Cox. Gaines was Calaveras County’s Senator for nearly two years until redistricting put Calaveras in District 14, which is now represented by Tom Berryhill.
Gaines, a Republican, announced this morning that he will run for the California Insurance Commission seat in 2014. He will likely face Democratic incumbent Dave Jones. Gaines also runs a family insurance business in the Sacramento area.
“As a family insurance agent, I’ve had to fight insurance companies on behalf of my clients,” he says. “And as a state legislator, I work hard to fight big government bureaucracy on behalf of my constituents.”
In addition to his time in the Senate, Gaines served in the California Assembly from 2006-2011.
