Jamestown, CA — Jamestown residents will soon be getting better fire protection. An $862,000 FEMA Safer (Safer Staffing For Adequate Fire Emergency Response) Grant is allowing a new fire house to open Monday. The new Jamestown Fire Protection District facility is located at 18249 4th Avenue. It will be manned 24/7 with five Cal Fire firefighters and a Tuolumne County resident firefighter.
Cal Fire Capt. Mike Spear says, “The direct impact for the Jamestown area as well as the county is large. It will allow us to have fire resources in that area in a faster time and allow for the station in Mono Village to be kept on base or at the station in the event that we have other emergencies that are in its first response area.”
The station is equipped with one engine. The grant is good for two years. Spear says they hope to find permanent funding before the grant runs out.
