Update: Winter Weather Advisory Issued For The Sierra Nevada

The Winter Weather Advisory issued for the Sierra Nevada above 5,500 feet, will continue until 5 AM Saturday.

The snow levels currently around 6,000 feet will lower to 5,000 to 5,500 feet later today and then down to around 4,000 feet tonight.

Additional periods of wet snow accumulations above the 6,000 foot elevation, will range between two to eight inches.

Lingering snow showers with minor accumulations may continue on Saturday.

Wind gusts up to forty-five mph will also continue over the higher peaks.

Expect travel delays and chain controls that will impact mountain travel. Plan on difficult travel conditions with slick and snow covered roads some of which may become impassable or closed. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

Hikers and campers should be prepared for winter like conditions.

A Winter Weather Advisory means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.
