Sacramento, CA – The Associated Press reports gun owners’ groups are considering recall campaigns against five Democratic state lawmakers, including Assembly Speaker John Perez. Organizers said Thursday that their effort would be patterned after recall elections in September which unseated two Colorado state legislators, including the state Senate president.
Free California Founder Jennifer Kerns during a Capitol news conference stressed that the successful Colorado recalls suggest that lawmakers also are vulnerable in California.
The AP reports Kerns also is the spokeswoman for the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, who was the only lawmaker to attend today’s news conference.
The announcement comes nearly two weeks after Gov. Jerry Brown signed 11 gun-control bills into law, including a ban on lead ammunition.
A spokesman for Perez says gun safety measures enjoy overwhelming support in California.
