Sonora, CA — The CHP reports that the person airlifted away following a crash at the Highway 120/49 intersection yesterday afternoon was visiting from China.
34-year-old Ting Fu was a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in a 2:15pm crash near the Highway 49 intersection. The CHP says the driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Yi Du of China, was at the stop sign on Highway 49 at the Highway 120 intersection. Du accelerated and failed to yield to an oncoming vehicle on Highway 120, driven by 31-year-old Dennis Stanley of Carmicheal. Stanley tried to swerve away from Du, but the vehicles collided.
Passenger Fu was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto because of reported head trauma. Stanley was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center to treat a broken wrist.
Du was not injured.
