Dropping Mulch Is All That Remains

Tuolumne County, CA — 98% of the BAER team’s work is now completed in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Forest Service spokesperson Veronica Garcia says the last remaining item is “heli-mulching,” which consists of dropping material (primarily straw) onto burned areas to prevent erosion. By utilizing a helicopter, 4,000 acres of scorched land will be covered with mulch, and 1,200 acres is already completed. Contractors will finish the work by the end of the month.

Garcia notes that the bulk of the BAER Team members will be finished with their tasks, and heading home by the end of the week. The team received nearly $9 million to make emergency repairs in the Forest following the Rim Fire.
