Coping With Suicide

Sonora, CA — Over recent years Tuolumne County has had one of the higher suicide rates in the State of California, and this weekend will be an event for friends and family members that have been impacted.

The event is in correlation with International Survivors of Suicide Day. “Along with suicide often comes a feeling of loneliness, and people think they are the only one that this has ever happened too, and that’s not the case,” says Marilyn Graham, event organizer.
Survivor events will be taking place in 300 cities across the country on Saturday, and locally in the Enrichment Center at the former Tuolumne General Hospital facility. The event will start at around 9am. It is open to adults and middle school aged students on up. Graham does ask that students be accompanied by a guardian.

The CDC reports that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. Someone dies from suicide every 13.7 minutes.

Around 25 people have pre-registered for Saturday’s event. To do so, you can call Graham at 209-536-4944.
