Update: Fatal Crash

Stanislaus National Forest, CA — The CHP confirms the driver of a semi died after the truck plummeted off the Clavey River Bridge. That area is where much of the current BAER Team work is taking place, but the CHP will not confirm if the man worked with the team.

CHP Spokesperson Nick Norton says the truck was pulling two trailers full of hay. He says, “He was traveling out to drop off a load of hay and for unknown reasons, whether it was speed or a mechanical issue, the vehicle went through the guard rail of the bridge and went approximately 100 feet over the side into the river bed. The party was trapped in the vehicle and perished on scene.”

The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue rope team was dispatched to the scene. Also, a hazmat crew was called in to clean up any possible diesel fuel or other liquids that could have leaked into the river. Crews will be back on the scene Saturday morning to tow the truck from the river bed.

The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of the family. Click here for a map of the wreck site.
