Tuolumne County, CA — A longtime leader in the Tuolumne County community has passed away at the age of 91. Edward (Ed) Minium was a Chemical Engineer, Silicon Valley entrepreneur in the 60’s and 70’s, and a Sonora resident of 27 years.
Minium was an advocate for volunteer work. He founded the Tuolumne County Sheriffs Community Service Unit (CSU) at the Junction. For more than 20 years the nonprofit CSU has provided neighborhood patrols, served subpoenas, fingerprinted children, directed traffic at events, and patrolled lake areas. They staff five offices countywide and manning a scam hotline 588-1221.
Minium was also the founder of the annual “Volunteers are the Heart of Tuolumne County” the event is put on by Sierra Nonprofit Services. One of six awards presented at the luncheon is The Ed Minium Legacy Award, which honors an individual or group who effectively responded to a significant need through volunteer action. This year will be the 13th celebration of the event which is held the third Thursday of April.
Minium was Tuolumne County Field Operations Supervisor in 1990. He helped set up the Walmart store when it was first built. He also served on the Sunnyvale City Council and Planning Commission.
The Ed Minium Memorial Service will be held January 18th at 1pm at Terzich & Wilson Funeral Home.
