San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Supervisors have a new Chairwoman for 2014.
Yesterday the Board broke tradition of using a rotating system to fill the Chair position, and passed over Vice Chair Darren Spellman, in favor of Debbie Ponte. According to the Calaveras County Board Clerk, the vote was 3-1, with Merita Callaway opposed and Spellman abstaining.
Cliff Edson was then elected Vice Chair with a 5-0 vote.
Also yesterday, the Board voted 5-0 to place restrictions on 3.75 acres of Calaveras County owned property, east of the Government Center, for oak tree conservation purposes. It is designed to partially mitigate impacts from the Law and Justice Center project.
