Ski Resort Finally Opening

Pinecrest, CA — One of the area ski resorts will fire up the lifts starting Thursday morning.

Dodge Ridge will open for the season, after the recent storm system dropped an estimated 51 inches of snow at the resort’s summit, and 12 inches at the base. Spokesperson Jeff Hauff says about 75% of the terrain will be open when the lifts crank up on Thursday morning. It’s one of the latest openings ever for Dodge Ridge. Hauff says its comparable to 1991, when the resort opened for a short period in December, and did not reopen until March.

In a story we did in 2012, Dodge Ridge owner Sally Helm stated that records indicate that the resort opened for the season as late as March, at one time in the 1960’s.

Bear Valley, which has the ability to make its own snow, opened for the season in mid-December.
