Two Calaveras Residents Die From Flu

San Andreas, CA — Concerns about this flu season are hitting home.

Two Calaveras County residents have now died of the flu. The Calaveras County Department of Public health was notified of the situation yesterday. Public Health Officer Dr. Dean Kelaita says both people were between the ages of 50 and 65, and had to be hospitalized out of the county. Their exact ages were not immediately released. One of the cases was confirmed to be the H1N1 flu strain.

There have now been 202 confirmed deaths in the California this season, related to the flu. It is twice the number of flu deaths reported all of last season in the state.

Dr. Kelaita is urging anyone that has not received a flu shot, to still do so. He says they are available through health departments, pharmacies and local health care providers.
