Leave the kids at home this Monday, for the the 12th annual For “Adult Ears Only” storytelling concert at Stage 3 Theatre in Sonora.
B.Z. Smith, a storyteller who will help in hosting the evening’s event, was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
This year’s featured storyteller is Kim Weitcamp. Along with her stories, Kim has a singing voice and a guitar and shares original songs that compliment each tale. Weitcamp will also perform at Sonora Elementary School while she is in town. Sponsored by the school’s dynamic “Support Sonora School” parents’ group with arrangements secured by storyteller Cynthia Restivo.
Although Monday’s stories may be somewhat colorful and a bit risque at times, Smith says the stories are not blatently profane or over-the-top. In fact, the stories will be fairly safe for those 13 years and over.
Smith believes that storytelling is neither a rare or even lost art form for adults, but is rather a trend that is growing and swelling. Live storytelling is a very personal and individual connection that a storytelling artist can make with his or her audience.
The Monday event from 7pm through 9 pm is sponsored by Delta Kappa Gamma-Iota Epsilon and The Mother Lode Storytelling Guild. This annual event is a benefit for community-based family literacy projects in the Sierra foothills.
Wine and dessert will be served at intermission. Drawings for gift baskets will also take place.
Tickets are $20 at Mountain Bookshop now and any extras will be available at the door on Monday night. For more information call B.Z. Smith, (209) 532-7697 or log onto http://hive-arts.org
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
