Police Sgt. Hurt In Crash Identified

Angels Camp, CA — New information has been released yesterday’s crash involving an Angels Camp Police Sergeant.

The CHP reports that 38-year-old Sgt. Steven Poortinga was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria patrol car on Highway 4 at around 3:15am. Sgt. Poortinga was approaching a left hand curve near Angels Road, going approximately 65-70 mph. The CHP report says, for unknown reasons, the vehicle went off the highway, struck a road marker, and eventually slammed into a tree.

Poortinga was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto following the unfortunate crash to treat “major injuries.” We’ll pass along more information as it becomes available.
