The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Sierra Nevada above 5500 feet, from midnight tonight to 8 AM Sunday.
Half a foot to two feet of snow accumulation is expected above 5500 feet.
Snow levels will initially range from 6000 through 7000 feet. By Saturday night, the snow levels will drop to 4000 through 5000 feet.
Winds of ten to twenty-five mph are forecast with gusts ranging from forty to fifty-five mph along the crest of the Sierra.
Half an inch to one inch and a quarter of rain is likely across the central valley. Over the lower Sierra Nevada, one to four inches of precipitation is expected.
There is a chance of thunderstorms in the region on Saturday afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms may bring ponding of water, hail, gusty winds and possibly a tornado.
