Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown says the three Democrat Senators facing criminal charges should resign to “restore public confidence”.
Brown made this statement after the Senate voted 28 to 1 to suspend Senators Leland Yee of San Francisco, Ron Calderon of Montebello, and Roderick Wright of Inglewood. All three senators are involved in separate criminal proceedings.
In a statement released by the Governor’s Office, Brown says, “Given the extraordinary circumstances of these cases – and today’s unprecedented suspensions – the best way to restore public confidence is for these Senators to resign.”
The suspension vote prevents the lawmakers from exercising any power of their office but allows them to keep receiving their paychecks.
