Sugar Pine, CA — The Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve a contract with Sunkay Associates to build the cell tower. Now the company has a year to break ground on the project.
“From our prospective right now it looks good. We haven’t hit any real stumbling blocks yet,” says Larry Crabtree, Mi-Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Chief. “The agreement we signed gives them [Sunkay Associates] a year to break ground, to do all the preliminary surveys and studies, and line up a cell provider and break ground,” adds Crabtree.
The tower would be 90 feet tall with the first cell carrier’s antenna at 85 feet. There is a potential for a second cell provider’s antenna at 75 feet.
Crabtree says, “They [Sunkay Associates] have offered to put our fire department radio antenna on the very top at no cost to us.” District officials stress the tower would not cost the district any money and could potentially bring in anywhere from $3,000-$15,000 a year in new revenue.
