County Requests Rim Fire Hearing

Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will send a letter to the Chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, Congressman Doc Hastings, asking for a hearing related to the Rim Fire.

The County lists four items it would like to see addressed at a Congressional Hearing: 1. Investigate the cause and early management of the Rim Fire; 2. Investigate the environment (fuel conditions) in which the Rim Fire occurred; 3. Identify those lessons that can be learned in regards to best firefighting practices that might have brought the Rim Fire under control sooner; 4. Identify those lessons that can be learned with respect to forest management practices that could have minimized the growth and environmental and economic impacts of the fire.

The Rim Fire burned 257,314 acres and impacted large portions of the Stanislaus National Forest, Emigrant Wilderness, Tuolumne Wild and Scenic River Watershed, Hetch Hetchy Water and Power System and Yosemite National Park.
