Forest Seeks Artists

Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest can be your inspiration to make a masterpiece.

Forest Officials are offering up a two week stay in the forest to artists in exchange for a piece of their work. The forest is taking applications for the 2014 “Artist in the Woods” program. Professional artists can apply for a two week stay in a historic cabin in the Summit Ranger District in either September or October. All the artists have to do is donate an original piece of forest artwork and teach a public workshop during their stay.

Forest Spokesperson Marie Malo says, “It creates a sense of stewardship for the beauty of the culture and natural resources of the forest. It brings people into the forest to see it as a different kind of venue than they had seen it before, instead as a venue for creating art.”

Only one artist will be selected for each two week stay. The deadline to apply for the program is May 1. Click here to get an application.
