Sonora, CA — Don’t be alarmed if you notice a lot of emergency activity around Sonora High School this morning.
An “Every 15 Minutes” drill is taking place in front of the school. It is a simulation of a fatal DUI accident. Several emergency responders are arriving at the high school with flashing lights and sirens, and the student body was not made aware ahead of time that it is only a simulation. A handful of students are taking part and pretending to be injured. It is designed to drive home the point that every 15 minutes someone dies in a DUI related accident.
School Street is currently closed from Washington Street to Snell Street as part of the event.
Several events in correlation will take place over the next two days at the school.
