Angels Camp, CA — A Santa Rosa man was arrested after hitting an Angels Camp motorcyclist.
The CHP reports that 30-year-old Christopher Fohlen of Santa Rosa was driving a 2004 Ford northbound on Highway 49 near San Domingo Creek, and he allowed the vehicle to drift into the opposing traffic lane. He then side-swiped a southbound 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle ridden by 59-year-old Mark Lewis of Angels Camp.
The CHP reports that Fohlen fled the scene, so Lewis turned around on the bike and tried to chase down the suspect. The CHP states that Lewis was trying to get Fohlen’s license plate numbers.
Lewis, however, was riding over 70 mph, and when came out of a curve, he saw a Sheriff’s Department patrol car making a u-turn in an attempt to go northbound after Fohlen. Lewis slid the motorcycle to the ground, in order to avoid the patrol car, and he received minor injuries. An ambulance responded and Lewis was taken away to Mark Twain Medical Center.
Fohlen, meanwhile, was later located by an officer on Highway 49 heading into San Andreas. He was arrested and taken into custody on DUI charges, and for leaving the accident scene.
The initial accident happened at 1:35pm on Saturday, and the second crash happened four minutes later.
