Calaveras County, CA — The CHP has released new information about a fatal weekend crash in Calaveras County.
An unidentified 17-year-old male from Stockton was killed in the accident on Highway 26 near Deardoff Road. The CHP reports that he was in a 1989 Toyota pickup truck driven by 20-year-old Robert J. Prater of Stockton. The truck went off the highway, hit an embankment and then overturned. The teen that died was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected
Prater told the CHP he swerved to avoid a vehicle that had drifted into his lane, and it caused him to go off the highway. Prater described the other vehicle as being a dark colored, newer, Jeep Cherokee. Anyone that has information about the crash is encouraged to call the CHP at 209-754-3541.
The crash was reported at around 9:45am on Saturday.
