Lightning Strikes In Forest

Tuolumne County, CA — Some small lightning caused fires have emerged this morning in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Lightning was reported in the region late yesterday afternoon and overnight. Stanislaus National Forest Fire Management Officer Chris Schow says three fires have been spotted, as of 10am, primarily in the Summit Ranger District. The three fires have been about 1/10 of an acre in size. Schow expects more fires to potentially emerge throughout the day, and into tomorrow.

With more lightning possible over the next couple of days, additional staffing is being brought in to assist the Stanislaus National Forest. It includes a team of 10 smoke jumpers that will soon arrive in Columbia.
