Jamestown, CA — The CHP’s guidelines for motorcycle “lane splitting” safety are at issue. Lane splitting is a legal driving maneuver where motorcyclists can pass stalled traffic by driving between lanes.
The state Office of Administrative Law is worried that those safety guidelines made public by the CHP online and in pamphlets could be misconstrued as enforceable laws. The CHP has taken them from its website.
Officer Nick Norton of the Jamestown office says, “The pamphlets that we did have we have shredded and have gotten rid of so they don’t get put out there anymore.”
It is unclear what part or verbiage may have caused state legal officials to call for the information to be removed.
