Sonora, CA – For close to twenty years the name “JS West Lumber and Hardware” has been prominently displayed on the store front in downtown Sonora. That signage will come down in September when the new owner, Calaveras Lumber, takes over.
“It’s a perfect fit,” says JS West Store General Manager David May. He says the West family wanted to get back to its core businesses of propane and egg production and Calaveras Lumber has been looking to expand to Sonora ever since the closing of the Andy’s Home Center.
Calaveras Lumber has a store in Angels Camp and it is an ACE Hardware franchise, like J.S. West. May says that partnership will continue at the Sonora store. He says the sale will benefit customers the most.
“It actually becomes better for our customers to be able to get more consistent pricing, to be able to get better pricing and be able to be serviced a lot better with two locations,” explains May.
There are no plans to enlarge the Sonora store, but May says the lumberyard will be improved with better and more lumber being added.
