Sonora, CA — Cooler temperatures and construction will impact Stanislaus National Forest visitors.
The Meadow View, Boulder and Dardanelle campgrounds have already closed for the season in the Summit Ranger District. Others will follow and close by September 15. They include Cascade Creek, Mill Creek, Fence Creek, Niagara Creek and Black Oak Flat Campgrounds.
As reported earlier, work on the Fraser Flat Bridge will force the closure of the Fraser Flat Campground on that date as well. Tree removal near the campground has already started. That has banned all parking near the trailhead and has closed the Sugar Pine Railway to all motor and foot traffic. In addition, Roadway 4N01, near the South Fork of the Stanislaus River will also be closed during bridge construction.
Forest Spokesperson Rebecca Garcia offers this tip to visitors, “It’s important to know exactly where you want to go before hand and call to make sure it’s open and what services will be available.”
There are several campgrounds along the Highway 108 corridor that will remain open through the Columbus Day Weekend. To find out the most up to date information, here is the list of numbers to call:
