Columbia, CA — The top spot in the Columbia Fire Protection District has been filled. New Chief Mark Ferreira took over the post earlier this month. He has been a Paramedic Captain since 2001 for the Ebbetts Pass Fire Department. As Chief of Columbia Fire, Ferreira will oversee 20 personnel and a $60,000 annual budget.
Ferreira says, “One of the things I am going to try to get started is a community based CPR class. It seems to be a real need in Tuolumne County. I would also like to see us have a bigger roster, a more active volunteer base, which is tough as the State of California requires more out of firefighters.”
Ferreira will be paid a stipend of $700 a month. He replaces Ryan Delgado who left the post in January.
