King Fire 43% Contained

Pollock Pines, CA — The King Fire northeast of Sacramento is up to 43% containment, and it has grown to 95,347 acres.

The cost to fight the fire is now over $50 million. It is the second priciest fire to fight so far this season, ranking only behind the $86 million spent to battle a still burning fire in the Klamath National Forest.

It’s well behind the $127 million used to fight last year’s Rim Fire.

Around 8,000 firefighters are assigned to the King Fire.  The flames have destroyed 12 homes and several outbuildings.

Rain is expected in the area later today.
