Wicked Weather Wipe Out

Yosemite, CA — Yosemite Fire officials are looking to this evening’s stormy weather to help snuff out lingering fires in the park.

“We have several fires smoldering and we are looking patiently to see what the rain does to them,” says Park Fire Spokesperson Gary Wuchner.  “They are all in a containment phase, many of these high elevation fires will most likely go out.  This should be it for those fires.”

One of those fires is the 4,772 acre Meadow Fire, which began in August.  Some smoke is still showing in the interior of the burn area and it is 98% contained at this time.  Due to the fire, the only trail open in the Little Yosemite Valley area is the Half Dome cable trail from Nevada Falls.

There are two other fires burning in extremely high elevations in Tuolumne County totaling 26 acres with smoke still visible from Tuolumne Meadows.  They started in July and Wuchner hopes the snow will snuff them completely out.
